Jakarta, January 27, 2010 – Chairman of the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Gita Wirjawan and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero)(Garuda), Emirsyah Satar, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at BKPM office, Jakarta. The new partnership aims to align strengths in better coordinating efforts to boost Indonesia’s image both domestically and internationally.
The MoU covers joint promotion efforts, including editorials and advertisements in Garuda Inflight Magazine, as well as an informative brochure “Invest in Remarkable Indonesia” which
will be available on all Garuda domestic and international flights, as well as all Garuda sales offices. Garuda will also place its brochures in BKPM offices, both in the headquarters and the international representative offices. A model of a Garuda Boeing airplane is displayed in BKPM’s lobby as a symbol of both parties’ commitment to promoting Indonesia.
BKPM Chairman, Gita Wirjawan, stated that there remain many challenges in escalating investments in Indonesia. Most important among these are the need to increase provisions for infrastructure, undergo further bureaucratic reforms, and improve coordination between related government bodies and with regional governments. Notwithstanding these key areas, the need for efficient, effective and targeted investment promotion is equally important. “Investment promotion is very much part of BKPM’s investment strategy roadmap, and to be in partnership with our national flag carrier in promoting Indonesia is a complimentary alliance. We are pleased that we share the same vision and we hope this will lead to greater investment flows to Indonesia,” says BKPM Chairman.
Emirsyah Satar, The CEO of Garuda shared this sentiment and stated, “It is a privilege for Garuda Indonesia to be able to work together with BKPM and support them in their mission to
spur economic growth through investments, and to promote Indonesia’s potential to investors. This collaboration is also in time with Garuda’s plan to re-open their European routes, to be
launched in the near future. With an international network and a diverse customer base, Garuda is steadfast in its support of this mission”.
The signing of the MoU marks the first ever between BKPM and state-owned Garuda Indonesia. It is the hope of both parties that this partnership will continue for years to come. |
