Jakarta, July 12 2011 – The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) is upbeat that Indonesia can become the world’s eighth largest economy by 2045, due to the country’s improving economic fundamentals and its current development plans.

“With a more positive outlook about Indonesia’s economy from the international perspective, we expect that future investors will feel confident to invest in the country,” BKPM chairman Gita Wirjawan said in his recent address during the 2011 Marketing Investment Indonesia event in Washington DC.

The event was held as part of BKPM’s program to attract American investors to increase their investments in Indonesia.

The US is ranked the fifth largest foreign investor in Southeast Asia’s largest economy with a total investment of US$3.54 billion between 2000 and 2010. During the first quarter of this year, the US is the second largest investor in the country with investments valued at $359.1 million.
