HUMAN RESOURCE IMPROVEMENTS AT BKPM

Education is a top priority at BKPM.  We strongly believe that human resources equipped with high educational standards and a broad range of skilled experiences gives our organization the proficiency it needs to serve and develop Indonesia’s national economy.

The first step we have taken in improving our human resources is to implement a set of prerequisites for new employees in our recruitment stage, such as setting high standards for GPA and TOEFL scores. This initial screening is anticipated to bring a new standard for BKPM at an early stage – we hope to cultivate a new generation of young leaders who are prepared to serve the investment world. Additionally, to ensure that BKPM always gives a high standard of service for investors and to ensure that information concerning investment opportunities is communicated effectively and professionally, BKPM has been continuously training its employees to increase their foreign language capabilities. To set the bar high in foreign language capabilities, especially in English, it has been decided that all employees of BKPM should have a minimal prediction TOEFL score of 600. The TOEFL prediction score result has been monitored systematically, and as per February 2011 the number of BKPM’s staffs and officials that have reached the bar is 133 people out of 621 people.

The commitment of BKPM’s Chairman regarding the importance of education in increasing national investment is manifested in the institution’s newly dedicated yearly allocation of its budget for education on a yearly basis in APBN (State Income and Expense Budget Report), specifically for post graduate scholarships in education fields which support BKPM’s works and functions. In 2010, BKPM sent four of its selected staffs to S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies – Nanyang Technological University in Singapore to study at the post graduate program for Public Policy. As in 2011, BKPM is still on a selection process to screen 6 (six) of its highly qualified staffs to get their post graduate degree in Singapore.

Besides its dedicated budget, BKPM also encourages its employees to participate in other institutions’ graduate scholarships opportunities, such as those offered by Ministry of Finance – Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), National State Planning Board (Bappenas) – World Bank, StuNed/NESO, Australia Development Scholarship (AusAid) and other institutions. In 2011, 9 (nine) employees from BKPM have passed the post graduate program selection process, which details are:
